Johan Oldekop originally trained as a biologist at the University of Manchester (UK) and became involved in photography whilst pursuing a degree in Fine Arts before returning to biology to complete a masters degree.
Coming from a mixed background (German father/Argentinian mother) and growing up in several South-American countries as well as Belgium nurtured his concern and curiosity about issues related to identity. This Has lead to several projects related to identity and integration in immigrant communities over the world. The most recent explored the post-9/11 socio-political atmosphere that American Muslims live in today and was carried out during an internship with Magnum Photos in New York.
As a biologist he is interested in issues related to ecology and the enviroment and how they can effect local communities.
